The DAPW uses a single, modified microfusion cell, designed to release its entire charge at once. The weapon uses cheap quartz crystal arrays to direct the charge into a single plasma ray. When fired, the plasma bolt moves at around 1000 feet per second and is approximately 10000 degrees Fahrenheit, burning virtually anything into dust.
The bolt of plasma the weapon fires is far more intense than the internal mechanisms could possibly handle; only the casing is left intact, while the rest is damaged far beyond the repair capabilities of any engineer. This allows the user to be able to leave his weapon on the field and not have to worry about an enemy capturing the weapon.
Developed by an independent research lab -- Orion Solutions LLC --, Winchester arms was granted the license to build and distribute the weapon. As it was heavy military technology, it was illegal for Winchester to market the weapon to civilians at all. As such, they geared it towards the U.S. and foreign armed forces.
Initially used by the British and French during the Middle-Eastern War, it proved highly effective against nearly all forms of armor. A single bolt was capable of melting clean through a UAC tank's armor. Seeing its effectiveness, the weapon was issued to all Armed Forces specialists of the United States. While the rest of the Army used the new standard missile launcher, these specialists learnt how to specifically aim these wonderfully powerful weapons againist Chinese tanks.
During the Sino-American War, the M45 was used to great effect against Chinese armor of all types, including the jerry-rigged Chimera tanks in Alaska. The highly-heated projectile would burn through the hulls of virtually any Chinese metal that any infantryman could think of.
